Window valance
A window valance is a short curtain which is used to cover up the upper part of windows. Originally valances were invented to conceal unsightly drapery hardware. They are great for establishing your room’s personality, and a great place to play with different patterns and colors in the home. You can find a window valance in all color schemes and cool patterns. It would be a great idea to experiment with some patterns if your home has no window treatments or if you’re moving into a new house.
There are three main categories of window valances:
Swag Valances – a window valance where the material is draped over the rod and the top of the window, with the tails hanging down each side. For a more formal look the tails can be arranged into neat folds with contrasting lining.
Ascot Valances – these are formal valances, where the fabric is formed in the shape of triangles hanging over the rod at the top of a window, with the triangles in the middle and the sides of the window being longer for a dramatic effect.
Balloon Valances – they are made with lightweight fabric that is gathered, creating the look of opulence. This style is only suitable for formal rooms as it tends to be rather ornate.
You might think of a window valance as old-fashioned and something you’d see in older homes but the truth is that its classic style is making a comeback amongst those in-the-know. A window valance can contribute to the stylish, well-designed look of any house or apartment. Many young professionals are using window treatments to make their apartments feel like home and also to express their contemporary sense of fashion style. No matter where you live, a valance can add that finishing touch in order to make your place feel like a real home. There are so many great reasons why you might need a valance, so here are a few to help you decide.
You can use a window valance to add a dash of personality to your bedroom. It’s a great way to bring out some flavor to your kids’ room or your bedroom. Decorate the rest of the room’s windows with traditional or maybe trendy window treatments and curtains. It’s easy to find customized window treatments that work amazingly well in any room you’d like to accentuate.
Another reason you might want to consider adding a window valance to your room is to help make your place feel like home. For example, kitchen valances can add a cozy feeling to your kitchen or dining room, making it a space where your friends and family would love to come together for a delicious meal or a talk. The right valance can add a lot of warmth to your kitchen; another great idea is to add window treatments to your sliding glass doors as well.
A window valance can also add a touch of dignity to your home. You can certainly enrich the atmosphere by adding the class that window treatments provide. True, you can just cover up your windows with blinds but why not make your window look current and trendy with a stylish window valance instead? You can find many affordable valances which can turn your house or apartment into a classy gathering spot.
